Daily Spiritual Habits of Bible Reading and Prayer

God uses the daily spiritual habits of Bible reading and prayer to grow us strong in our faith. Below you will find a link to the reading plan we are following this year and a guide for your prayer time. We hope these resources will help you begin and keep good spiritual habits that will grow you strong in your faith over time.

Daily Reading Plan

The plan we are using in 2023 is the One Year Bible. This plan has daily readings from the Old and New Testaments and a daily reading from the Psalms and the Proverbs. If you didn't start at the beginning of the year, don't worry about it. Just jump in on today's date. It's OK if you feel a little lost at first. Remember that this is a lifetime journey of following God and hearing His Word. The Holy Spirit will help you over time understand more and more and you will find great strength from your knowledge of God's word.

A Guide For Daily Prayer.

1. Begin by reading the Bible.

If prayer is a conversation with God, it is a conversation that He started by revealing himself to us through His word and His Son. We begin by hearing from Him so that our thoughts come more in line with His. Pick a verse to meditate on or read from your daily Bible reading plan.

2. Pray the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) in your own words.

Jesus has given us a model for prayer to guide our prayers. We don’t simply mindlessly repeat the words of the prayer back to Him but we use the model prayer to remind us of the types of things that should be part of our communication with God.

3. Open up your mind and heart to God.

After you have meditated on scripture and prayed The Lord’s Prayer in your own words your thoughts and emotions should be more in line with God’s. At this point simply take him anything that is on your mind. Communicate to Him your joys, your gratitude, your fears, your worries. Tell Him your sorrow over your sin. Ask Him for the things you need. Pray for others to be helped and healed. Whatever is on your mind, take it to your Heavenly Father. He cares and He hears you.
